Animation tax relief

Tech Relief - Helping technology companies that create animations to claim Animation Tax Relief

R&D tax relief for technology companies

Animation tax relief is a government incentive that lowers your tax bill.

When a company is involved in an animation programme and spends £250,000 on production, this expenditure can qualify for additional Corporation Tax relief.

If the company makes a loss for the year, the company can claim back 25% of the loss from HMRC.

If the company is profit making then up to £112,500 of tax can be saved.

You may be able to claim Corporation Tax relief if your animation is certified by the BFI, is intended for broadcast (including online) and passes a cultural test.

Our approach to animation tax relief

We will assess whether your animation meets the various tests set out in tax legislation. If they do, we will identify and quantify the relevant tax expenditure to maximise the tax relief available to you. We will model the possible outcomes before submitting a claim so that you can assess whether it is worthwhile for you. We will do the modelling at no additional cost to you where we are preparing your Corporation Tax return.

Why choose our animation tax relief service

  • Complex compliance requirements - you need to submit a significant amount of information to HMRC to support your claim. Tech Relief will submit this for you to ensure that your claim is successful.
  • Claiming for eligible costs -  not all expenditure qualifies for tax relief so we will undertake the detailed calculations required to make an accurate and successful claim.
